Call for Artists

Albany Park Theater Project is seeking to expand our community of creative collaborators. We are looking for performing artists to come play with our youth ensemble this summer, to teach us new skills, deepen the skills we already have, and to broaden our sense of what is possible in performance.

We invite performance practitioners who cherish youth artists and who love to teach to submit proposals for workshops you would like to facilitate this summer with our ensemble of passionate, courageous, loving, and inspiring teen theater makers. We are open to proposals for workshops ranging from 2 to 10 hours, conducted on a single day or over multiple days. Our interests include – but are by no means limited to – clowning, circus arts, contact improv, dance of all kinds, guitar, hip hop, improv, illusion, magic, mask making, mask performance, percussion, physical theater, puppetry, singing, stage combat, street performance, writing for performance…and so much more.

Workshops will take place in July and August at our home theater space on Chicago’s northwest side. There will likely be 10 to 25 youth artists in each workshop, age 13 to 18. Workshops can be limited to experienced members of APTP’s performing ensemble, or open to teens in their first summer with APTP alongside veteran youth performers.

Have skills and passions you want to share with us? Please send the following materials by email to mail@aptpchicago.org:

1. A one-page description of the workshop you’d like to lead – and why you’d like to share this specifically with APTP’s youth ensemble. Please include your ideal number of sessions and time per session.

2. Your resume or a narrative of your experience.

3. One or two references who can talk about your experience leading similar workshops.

4. Your requested fee or hourly rate.

5. A budget for any required materials.

Please send materials by email to mail@aptpchicago.org. There’s no deadline, but we will start booking workshops as we receive proposals that excite us. We have the time and resources to host 3 to 5 workshops this summer.

About Albany Park Theater Project (aptpchicago.org)

APTP is a multiethnic, youth theater ensemble that inspires people to envision a more just and beautiful world. We make our home in one of the most ethnically diverse neighborhoods in the country, where we devise original theater based on the life experiences of people whose stories might otherwise go untold: urban teens, immigrants, and working-class Americans.

If you are not familiar with APTP, we encourage you to watch video clips of our youth ensemble before preparing your proposal. You can find a collection on Vimeo at http://vimeo.com/albanyparktheater.
