The American Project

A middle-school teacher turns her classroom into a sanctuary for asylum-seeking students. A dual citizen invents her own wonderland when neither of her homelands will accept her. Three teens arrive in the United States – from Japan, from Somalia, from Sudan – and find the America they were promised doesn’t exist, so they set to work building it together.

From classrooms to kitchens to standoffs in Chicago streets, The American Project brings to the stage stories of people taking it upon themselves to write the next chapter of the American story.
