Miguel Angel Rodriguez

Miguel Angel Rodriguez (he/him) is a multidisciplinary artist, director, and comedian whose work centers community, collective storytelling, and transformative performance. He is the Co-Executive Director of Albany Park Theater Project (APTP), where he creates original, ensemble-devised theater rooted in the lived experiences of immigrant, working-class, and first-generation communities. His recent projects include Port of Entry, an acclaimed immersive performance exploring the lives of new Americans, and Homecoming, a celebration of resilience, culture, and belonging. He also serves as Co-Artistic Director of The American Project, a new work in development set to premiere in summer 2026.

As part of his work with APTP, Miguel is a teaching artist in six public schools in Albany Park, where he guides young people through the creation of original performances that honor their stories, families, and the community.

Prior to returning to lead APTP, he spent over a decade in education, first as a teacher in the South Bronx and later as an assistant principal in Chicago’s Englewood neighborhood. During that time, he founded two school-based theater programs and trained fellow educators to integrate arts-based practices in the classroom, all part of his ongoing commitment to increasing arts access for students of color.

Under Miguel’s artistic leadership, APTP has received the Artistic Excellence Award from the League of Chicago Theatres and the Monte Meacham Award from the American Alliance for Theatre & Education, which honors outstanding contributions to theatre for youth. He is also a proud 2021 Chicago Surge Fellow, a program that empowers leaders of color driving change in education and beyond.

Miguel currently serves on the boards of the League of Chicago Theatres, North River Commission, and The Harlem Stories Project in New York.
