Aqui Estoy (2003/2004)
In the summer of 2002, APTP embarked on what was at the time its largest ethnographic project, conducting interviews and archival research to trace 125 years of immigration to our neighborhood, Albany Park. The resulting performance, Aquí Estoy, was a collection of six short plays that debuted in May, 2003. Two of these plays–“Amor de Lejos” and “Nine Digits”–focused on undocumented immigrants from Central America. “Amor de Lejos” and “Nine Digits” became signature works for APTP and remained in the company’s repertoire for years. In 2007, APTP staged a new production of Aquí Estoy, comprised just of “Amor de Lejos” and “Nine Digits.”
