Announcing Port of Entry

Coming in 2022/23, Port of Entry will invite audiences to step inside the stories of immigrants from all parts of the world as they forge new lives within the walls of a single apartment building in one of the country’s most diverse immigrant communities.

The most ambitious production in APTP’s 25-year history, Port of Entry won’t take place on a stage, but instead across the three stories of a re-created apartment building in the heart of Chicago’s Albany Park neighborhood. Created by APTP and Third Rail Projects and performed by APTP’s youth ensemble, Port of Entry will take audiences on a journey through time and across cultures as they are welcomed into the lives of the people who have made this place their home over the span of a century.

“When Port of Entry premieres, there will be no other show like it in Chicago. People from down the block, all parts of the city, and across the country will come here, to Albany Park, to see amazing theater and to experience the stories of our community.”

“When Port of Entry premieres, there will be no other show like it in Chicago,” says APTP Co-Executive Director Miguel Rodriguez. “People from down the block, all parts of the city, and across the country will come here, to Albany Park, to see amazing theater and to experience the stories of our community.”

Port of Entry is our second collaboration with Third Rail Projects following Learning Curve, our critically-acclaimed 2016 immersive performance that placed audiences in the shoes of students in a Chicago public high school.
