A Rich, Exhilarating Learning Experience

“I’ve never seen my students so absorbed in a performance. God’s Work was a rich, exhilarating learning experience for our middle school students as they watched a profound personal story dramatized brilliantly. They took to heart the themes of redemption and renewal. After the play, our 7th and 8th graders discussed and asked questions about domestic violence, dramatic symbolism, children’s rights, religion, set design, actor’s craft, puppetry and script writing. What thrilled me as an educator was how the students were able to interpret the visual imagery and feel compassion for the characters. It meant so much to them to see young people from their own community telling this story on stage at the Goodman Theatre. This is what we refer to in education as an ‘authentic learning experience.'”
