Albany Park Theater Project turned 25 on April 1, 2022. To celebrate we announced a year-long season that features our teen ensemble’s return to live performance, an immersive-theater-in-an-envelope experience that brings APTP to your mailbox, expanded programs for students in our neighborhood schools – and the premiere of an immersive performance that will be the most ambitious production in our 25-year history.
Wherever you are in the world, APTP’s 25th anniversary season offers ways for you to experience the stories of our community and the power and beauty of our teen artists.
YOURS TRULY (March 2022 – English and Spanish) – Immersive theater in an envelope, delivered by the USPS. Sign up for Yours Truly and you’ll receive four letters from Tala, a high-school junior who loves writing, music, doodling and her Filipina heritage…and who is about to discover a family secret. Yours Truly immerses audiences in the journey of an Albany Park teen navigating family relationships, cultural identity, adolescence – and a pandemic. Each envelope also includes art and music created by APTP teen artists. Yours Truly is a new kind of performance experience inspired by real-life stories, crafted by APTP’s teen ensemble, and directed by Devika Ranjan. The Spring 2022 run of Yours Truly has ended.
HOMECOMING (July 2022) – For APTP’s first live performance since February, 2020, we’ll revisit some of our most beloved creations from 25 years of honoring our immigrant community’s real-life stories. As the world marks two years of living in a pandemic, Homecoming will bear loving and joyful witness to the ways that people and their stories survive all kinds of challenges. Can’t make it in person? We’ll film Homecoming for a Fall 2022 broadcast, inviting people from all around the world to journey through the interwebs and join us for an intimate evening in our home theater in Albany Park.
Our 25th anniversary season culminates with the premiere of Port of Entry, our most ambitious performance ever. Port of Entry invites you to step inside the stories of immigrants from all parts of the world as they forge new lives within the walls of a single apartment building. You won’t find this immersive performance on a stage; instead, Port of Entry unfolds across the three floors of a re-created apartment building in Chicago’s Albany Park neighborhood. Co-created by APTP and Third Rail Projects and performed by APTP’s youth ensemble, Port of Entry will take you on a journey through time and across cultures. portofentrychicago.com
