  • Meet the Cast of Ofrenda

    This spring, APTP’s 32 youth ensemble members will premiere Ofrenda, a new play devised by APTP, written by Isaac Gomez and directed by Stephanie Paul and Maggie Popadiak. The 32 cast members, all of whom are co-creators of the devised work, range in age from 13 to 18 and have spent from one to five years as members of the APTP company.   • There’s a Playwright in the Room?!

    We are thrilled to announce that our next original performance, Ofrenda, is being written by Chicago playwright Isaac Gomez and directed by longtime APTP artistic leaders Stephanie Paul and Maggie Popadiak. Ofrenda will be performed by APTP’s largest ever ensemble, 33 teens ranging in age from 13 to 18, all of whom are co-creators on the show. Ofrenda begins performances April 25 at our home theater in Albany Park.

  • APTP Seeks Box Office Coordinator

    Albany Park Theater Project (APTP) seeks to hire a Box Office Coordinator to support the premiere of OFRENDA, a new theater performance created by APTP, one of the country’s preeminent youth theater ensembles. OFRENDA is a constellation of real-life stories about creating home in turbulent times. OFRENDA will be performed by an ensemble of 34 teens in APTP’s 100-seat home theater in one of the most diverse immigrant neighborhoods in the country.

  • APTP Artists Mikhail Fiksel and Stephanie Paul Collaborate on Play Inspired by Boxer Jack Johnson in Pittsburgh and St. Louis

    This winter, APTP Resident Director Stephanie Paul and Resident Artist Mikhail Fiksel extend their collaboration with two productions of The Royale, a play by Marco Ramirez inspired by the true story of Jack Johnson, the first African American world heavyweight champion. The play is about one man’s quest for victory against all odds and personal demons.

    Mikhail and Stephanie both made their APTP debut with Feast in 2010 and have worked on every APTP show since. Mikhail is an award-winning composer, sound designer, musician and DJ whose work can be heard at theaters throughout the country. Stephanie is a multi-disciplinary artist who creates work that lives at the intersection of dance, theater and live ensemble-based percussion.

  • APTP Seeks Box Office Coordinator (Part-Time)

    Albany Park Theater Project (APTP) seeks to hire a Box Office Coordinator to support the premiere of LEARNING CURVE, an immersive theater performance created collaboratively by APTP, one of the country’s preeminent youth theater ensembles and recipient of a prestigious MacArthur Award, and Third Rail Projects, a Bessie Award-winning dance-theater company at the forefront of immersive and site-specific theater. LEARNING CURVE is a theatrical journey into public education that places audiences in a Chicago public high school and in the shoes of its students. After two years in development, LEARNING CURVE premiered in July to rave reviews, including four stars from the Chicago Tribune. The production is sold out through November 20.

    Albany Park Theater Project seeks a motivated individual to support the mission-critical, behind-the-scenes work of the organization, contributing to fundraising and day-to-day administrative operations. Candidates should be familiar with databases, comfortable with other office technology, detail-oriented, and passionate about contributing to the success of one of Chicago’s premiere theater ensembles.

    Albany Park Theater Project (APTP) seeks to hire a Box Office Coordinator to support the premiere of LEARNING CURVE, an immersive theater performance being created collaboratively by APTP, one of the country’s preeminent youth theater ensembles and recipient of a prestigious MacArthur Award, and Third Rail Projects, a Bessie Award-winning dance-theater company at the forefront of immersive and site-specific theater. LEARNING CURVE is a theatrical journey into public education that places audiences in a Chicago public high school and in the shoes of its students. The project has been in development since August, 2014 and will have its world premiere this summer in Logan Square, housed in a 4-storey school building.

    This morning, Albany Park Theater Project was named a recipient of the prestigious MacArthur Award for Creative and Effective Institutions. All of us at APTP – the youth ensemble, alumni, staff, and board of directors – are honored and overjoyed to celebrate this monumental news with the friends, audience members, donors, and partners who have nurtured our creative community over the past 19 years.
